FAQs For New Patients
What should I expect from my first visit?
During your first visit you will be evaluated by a physical therapist to review your medical history, assess your current status and limitation, and determine the appropriate plan of care to best meet your goals. We ask that you please arrive 10 to 15 minutes to complete necessary paperwork before your appointment begins. Depending on the individual case, patients may spend part of their visit in the pool after the evaluation. We recommend bringing anything you need for the pool just in case.
How long does an appointment typically last?
Most appointments will last around an hour. We ask that you arrive a few minutes early if you need to change into pool clothing and that are ready to enter the pool at your appointment time. Please do not shower or enter the pool until your therapist has let you know they are ready to get started.
Where are you located? Where should I park?
We are located on Katella Ave, approximately 2 blocks west of Katella deli and 1.25 mi east of the 605 freeway. Plenty of off-street parking is available in the lot surrounding our building and on-street parking is typically available directly in front of the clinic.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Patients coming to aquatic therapy should bring a towel, shower or water shoes, and non-cotton clothing to wear into the pool. Water specific clothing such as bathing suits are not required, but outerlayers should be material that will not restrict movement when wet. While the pool is warm patients who are particularly sensitive to the cold may appreciate a long sleeve rash guard.
Do I need to know how to swim?
Patients are not expected to know how to swim or float. The therapists will ensure you have the appropriate floatation equipment to be comfortable in the water.
Do I need a prescription for physical therapy to schedule an appointment?
No, anyone can seek care with a physical therapist without a prescription in California. However insurance companies and policies have varying rules regarding reimbursing or covering physical therapy services and your insurance may require a prescription or prior authorization to cover the visit. Patients using Medicare coverage will require a physician certification after the initial visit if they do not have a prescription or referral.
Do you accept students for clinical experiences?
We are proud to contribute to the education and training of future professionals in our field. From time to time, we host physical therapy (PT) students and physical therapy assistant (PTA) students who are completing their clinical rotations under supervision at our facility.
These students work as part of our care team — always under the direct supervision of licensed therapists — to provide assessment, treatment, and rehabilitative services. Their presence enhances our ability to deliver high-quality care, bringing fresh perspectives and assisting with therapeutic activities, documentation, and patient education.
